Pharma Digital Health Innovation Index 2026
How 24 pharmaceutical companies balance digital health strategy against the strength of their partner portfolios.

2026 Index
Partnership activity is no longer enough
The sixth edition separates the strategy expressed through a company's partnerships from the strength of the ventures it selected. The two dimensions remain independent so scale, strategic alignment and portfolio quality are not collapsed into one opaque score.

What changed
The gap is now about conversion, not collection
The 2026 edition asks whether partnerships become repeatable operating capability, supported by strong ventures and evidence, rather than rewarding portfolio size alone.
AstraZeneca leads strategy again
AstraZeneca holds the Balanced Scorecard lead for a third consecutive year, followed by Pfizer and Roche.
Regeneron leads portfolio strength
A comparatively small recent portfolio takes first place, showing why venture quality and portfolio volume must be evaluated separately.
Scale and quality can coexist
Eli Lilly combines the Index's largest recent portfolio with a position among the portfolio-strength leaders.
The Proactive group narrowed
Six companies sit above the field median on both strategy and portfolio strength, down from eight in the 2025 edition.
Methodology

Partnership, venture and signal data are sourced from HealthTech Alpha. The Explorer provides the complete calculation notes, scope, constraints and known limitations.
Balanced Scorecard
An equally weighted view of commercial activity, patient and HCP alignment, internal processes, and learning and growth, using each company's partnership history and recent activity.
Portfolio Strength
Ventures partnered with during the past three years are assessed through maturity, management-team strength and evidence of benefit.
